Rod, the bigger issue here is the other axes. On "Y" I think I can do something similar, but on "Z" the travels are so long and my home is essentially in the middle of travel so I'm not sure what I'm going to do there.
I'm not sure how Brother worked the homing cycle in the factory setup.
So the idea is that the home will stay triggered all the way to the positive limit is triggered. That will allow the machine to know if it's on the home to back off negative and if it's not to search positive?

Yes, thats how it is designed to work.
as far as the Z goes, there has to be clearance for the switch for its full length so maybe you can replace the trigger with a length of aluminium bar and drill and tap into the machine at the other end to support it.

Yes, thats how it is designed to work.
