Need Help Connecting Digital Drivers was created by PetitFroggie
Hi,
I am just getting started with building a CNC router machine for the first time and therefore have a big learning curve ahead.
I got stepper motors and drivers kits for Christmas. The drivers are DM556S (from Stepperonline) and I would like to use LinuxCNC.
I am not 100% sure how to connect them. Can you tell me if each of the following setup would work.
1) Regular parallel port —> MESA 7175 Breakout/FPGAprotection card —> DM556S drivers.
2) MESA 5I25 Superport FPGA —> MESA 7I76 Daughtercard —> DM556S drivers.
3) MESA 7I96 Ethernet interfaced Step&Dir plus I/O —> DM556S Drivers
If you prefer one of these setup over the others or if you have other recommendations, please let me know.
Thank you in advance for your help.

All of them will work properly, even parallel without BOB or Mesa works.
Parallel port will have a limited pulse rate, depending on the PC's latency, but with low microstepping it does work fine.
Mesa will be the best choice.
