Can't Ping 7i76 was created by cncbeagle
I'm having trouble getting my PC to connect to a new 7i76e.

The PC is a HP 8300 SFF i5 3470 with a second PCIe ethernet card

uname -r ==> 4.16.12-rt5-kona-rt

2.8.0-pre-5627-gf821f8b60

The 7i76 that I purchase from CnC Machines LLC is powered (for now) with a 12V 4A power brick connected to field power Vin+ and Vin 0v. W1 is in the left position and W3 is up for 10.10.10.10 address. All other jumpers are in their default positions. The only reaction when powering the 7i76 is a single amber LED at CR8. Nothing else is connected to the Mesa card.

I configured the PCIe ethernet card using the network manager and successfully connected to my local network and the internet.

Following tommylight's Mesa ethernet setup for 7i92, 7i96, 7i76E and other ethernet Mesa boards post I attempted to configure the onboard ethernet to connect to the Mesa card. I double checked all the steps but "ip a" never showed the configuration for eno1. So I edited the /etc/network/interfaces file as shown below.

# Mesa ethernet configuration
auto eno1
iface eno1 inet static
address 10.10.10.11
netmask 255.255.255.0
#gateway 10.10.10.1
hardware-irq-coalesce-rx-usecs 0

Now I see the eno1 configuration in ip a

3: eno1: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN group default qlen 1000
link/ether f0:92:1c:de:44:ec brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 10.10.10.11/24 brd 10.10.10.255 scope global eno1
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

pinging 10.10.10.10 returns node unreachable.

mesaflash --device 7i76e --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid returns no board found (as expected with no ping)

I have no activity lights on either the PC or 7i76 ethernet connectors. Plugging the 7i76 into an ethernet switch again I get no lights on either end. Same reaction with a different cable. I moved the W3 jumper down for 192.168.1.121 and cycled power while connected to the same switch as my PC. Again no lights illuminated on either ethernet connector. That address is not in use on my local network.

Throuought all my testing the 7i76 has been sitting on the bag in which it was delivered and I have been careful how it was handled. The RH in my shop has been between 44 to 56%.

I'm stuck.

Any suggestions?

John

You don't have the logic/FPGA section powered
You can ether supply 5V to P3
_or_ 8-32V to TB3 pins:
21 +unreg logic power
22 +unreg logic power
23 Logic GND
24 Logic GND

Well Duh!

I obviously misunderstood the documentation about the function of the W1 jumper. I feel stupid.

The ping now works with many more LEDs flashing on power up.
mesaflash now returns a bunch of information

24 packets transmitted, 24 received, 0% packet loss, time 23543ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.092/0.116/0.171/0.021 ms

With a max jitter < 90ms I should be good to go.

Thanks for helping the blind see!

Sorry for the confusion, I really should have a simple block diagram of the
power distribution in the manual
