Simple version, not as much as for parallel port.
In some cases up to 300000ns should be just fine, although to be on the safe side from the occasional excursions i would not use anything above 100000ns on industrial machines.
For the last 2 or 3 months i am using an old laptop with a Mesa 7i92 Ethernet board with the latency of 170 to 180Kns without issues, daily.

I'm getting 384000 on the 1ms and 515198 on the 25us on a lenovo think centre i5 core cpu I tried some mods in the bios , single core and some other setting but not much help. I read some stuff about some intel chipsets doing some stuff that is not helpful. I have some older computers I might have to try.
Thanks

You might try the 1 ms thread by itself since the base thread is not needed
for Mesa hardware, and a 25 usec base thread may simply be too fast for
your hardware, skewing the 1ms results.
latency-test 1ms 1ms
or
latency-histogram --nobase --sbinsize 1000

Single core on an i5 will not help, it will just cripple the PC.
