Connect MPG to 7i73 was created by rodw
I have a 5 volt MPG I want to connect to a Mesa 7i73 that has th efollowing signals
A+
A-
B+
B-

From what I can work out
it should be
A+ to 7i73 P1-11 (input 16)
B+ to 7i73 P12 (input 17)

But what about A- and B-? Do I just connect them to GND (7i73 P2-13)?

I'm doing this on a circuit board so I need to get it right first time.

The MPGs A- and B- should be left unconnected

if you ground them, you are shorting out the MPG signals
and may damage the MPG

And also if used as inputs P1-11 to P1-18 (inputs 16-23) should have a 10k pullup resistor to P2-29?

And is a 10k pullup on inputs 0-7 correct when used as inputs (P2-3 to P3-10)

Sorry about all the questions.

These do have 10K pullups to 3.3V (note that these inputs are 3.3V maximum input)

You would need to add external pullups to these pins if used with switches

Thanks I saw that about 3.3 V so am using 3.3 V from the 7i73 for everything except the Encoder which is using 5 v from the 7i73..

So if the 7i73 needs to be powered directly, is that done through the RJ45 connector?

Also Peter, what is a good resistor value for pullups on IN0 to IN7?
I was going with 10K which you use on some other pins but then I saw you had used 4.7k on P2.
