Mesa 7i92 firmware change

how does one change the firmware on a 7i92 on Linux?

I have used the mesaflash utility (with the correct syntax) and it returns " firmware not found "( or something to that effect)

I downloaded the 7i92 firmware from the Mesa website in the zipped folder, copied the firmware files (*.bit) to the linuxcnc firmware folder
(from memory)
use/firmware/Mesa/ or is it hmot??
created a folder called 7i92 alongside the other Mesa firmware folders

and pasted the firmware into that folder

do I need to place the firmware file somewhere else so that the mesaflash utility can find it?

thanks

You can put the 7i92 folder on the desktop if you want. open a terminal from there or from anywhere and cd into it.
Then cd configs/hostmot2
Make sure 7i92 is powered and connected to the computer via ethernet. Make sure you can ping it first.

ping 192.168.1.121 or
ping 10.10.10.10 or ping whatever you changed the ip to.

If you get a response then proceed to flash the firmware with:
mesaflash --device 7i92 --addr 10.10.10.10 --write 7i92_7i77x2.bit or
mesaflash --device 7i92 --write 7i92_7i77x2.bit

you should get when it has completed::
Boot sector OK
Verifying EEPROM sectors starting from 0x100000...
  |VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
Board configuration verified successfully.

You must power cycle the hardware or use the --reload command to load a new firmware.

I'm working on a tool to flash all the Mesa cards without having to open a terminal...

thanks John

I am happy using the terminal and only by using it do I get better at it and understanding Linux (coming from a Windows click here, click there background... well getting more lazy)

+ thanks for sorting my drip feed of hardware orders (I noticed you not shipping direct to the UK at the moment, anything wrong with UK purchases? I know we are under "soft" lockdown but parcels are still being delivered largely undelayed).
