Linuxcnc beginner here, awaiting arrival of my 7i96 card.

I've attached a screenshot of the available configuration files, unzipped from the file downloaded from the Mesa store.

I can't find any info about all these files, even in the 7i96 manual. I've seen a tutorial on Youtube where a guy uses one of them but I would have thought there'd be some info somewhere explaining the purpose of each file.

Is such info hiding somewhere else.

Keith

In general these are not needed unless you need some special feature
that it not provided by the standard firmware (7i96d.bit)

You can get an idea of what features are included in the additional
firmware files by reading the corresponding .pin files. Many
have support for an added daughtercard (on the expansion connector)
I that case the daughtercard name follows the "7i96"

Thanks PCW,

that helps a bit. It always leaves me puzzled though why manufacturers don't supply simple explanatory documentation for the products they make.

For 7i96_5abob_d.bit I see the P1 (expansion connector) section in the .pin file shows the pins have a primary and secondary function. And I'm guessing this may be selectable in PNCCONF. I'll go into this and have a play to see what I can find out. At present I'm looking to add a basic breakout board to P1 for I/O expansion but I always love knowing what other functionality is available.

You might have better luck using my 7i96 Configuration Tool. You can flash and read the card as well as many other things to build your configuration.
