7i96 question was created by Tesremos
Okay, so.i have a plasmac system.running on a 7i96, and i want encoder feedback, but i dont want to fork out for another 7i85s
Thanks PCW, your a legend.
Is it possible to directly interface 3 quadrature encoders
ABX to 12 input pins on P1?
i figure i could.do.this with software encodera, but that seems like the bad option, and hardware encoders qould be better.
Ive neen looking through the ISE but with out some hand holding its likey that pool.is too deep for me to swim in. (not that ill give up)

Its certainly possible _but_ you still need signal conditioning because
encoder signals tend to carry a lot of EMI and especially on a plasma
system you need differential encoder interfacing and protection from
voltage spikes. If you wired encoders directly to P1 with external wiring
near the table you would likely fry the 7I96's FPGA the first time the arc
started.

what steps would need to be taken to adjust the firmware to do this?
im very confident in my ability to isolate and condition the encoder signals.
also, ill be piggy backing the encoder signal from the servo drivers, which should be a marked imporvement noise wise, to reading axis encoders directly with the 7i96.

There is existing firmware that has 6 encoders on P1:
7i96_6enc_d.bit
7i96_6enc_d.bit
