7i76e output always high was created by jschi
I have a 7i76e configured up, had some challenges along the way - seeing this:
Output-5 is high (connected to an LED indicator lamp) -
It's high @ power on, it remains high after booting linuxcnc
However halshow shows thatsignalpin as FALSE/Red
so I disconnected the led and looped output-5 back into input-15
Input-15 shows HIGH (in halshow) and output-5 shows FALSE
I've seen the same on output-4 but output-1 seems to do the right thing?
Wiring? something fried?
Thanks in advance

That would indicate a failed output device

Thx for the quick reply:
what are my options? do outputs fail individually? e.g. I could swap to other output pins?
what would cause this (user failure almost certainly, but in what regards so I know what to do/not do)?
is there a specific chip on the board that controls this? replaceable?
thanks in advance.

Other outputs or even the complete chip may fail causing more damage.
The outputs can be damaged by driving larger inductive loads without
flyback diodes or connection to voltages outside of their operating range

As far as i can gather from the picture the loopback is wired to output 4, not 5.
It's at an angle so hard to make out where the pins are.

you are correct - I have the same issue on 4 & 5
26 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i76e.0.7i76.0.0.output-04 <== green-on

I may have found the issue here: forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/3925...nputs-tb5-tb6#170379
I had my VIN/Field IO coming in on TB1 Pin 5 with W1 in the Left position
Uggh

I zoomed in and it does look like output 4.

That would not hurt anything but its not a good way to wire the power because all
field output power then goes through W1. VIN by itself only draws 50 ma or so
but VFIELD could draw as much as 4A with outputs on at maximum load so
that should not feed through the VIN jumper.

ok, corrected it.
Apologies for (evidently) re-raising this issue - you generously replied to my previous question (which I thought was limited to stepgen failure) - but included this exact condition as well - senior moment here
