need hardware recommendations full sheet plywood router was created by tater1337
I see the maker made maslow cnc and a bit of critical reviews for it
I wonder why no one makes a cnc router like a panel saw
so I guess I'll look at making one
so 2,75 axis, with a cuttign head the weight of a full size wood router and a counterbalance along a 5ft rail
that gantry riding on a 9 foot rail (top an bottom rails) all chain driven by servos. any suggestions for servo sizes and the easiest driver board to use?

the problem is weight.
the marslow they talk about back driving
forums.maslowcnc.com/t/building-a-maslow...h-stepper-motors/168
the way they overcome this on the marslow is having a very highly geared motor.
289.77:1 reduction gearbox and a 7ppr encoder
I cannot seem to find the power (voltage and current) rating of the marslow motor
maslowcommunitygarden.org/Maslow-CNC-Motor.html
if you find that info then you can approximate it for whatever drive ratio

can't identify the h bridge chip but it seems to be running off 12v
.... L298!!

They are cheap, have no current limiting as they require L297 for limiting and step/dir capabilities, can be used directly wire to parallel port as LinuxCNC can output quadrature 4 pin signals for it.
For nearly the same price there are much better drivers, those small 3D printer ones, they have step/dir and current limiting included.

Sure looks like it as it does need the diodes on all outputs.

I liked the idea of the Maslow, but the math made my head ache.
I also wasn't too keen on strapping my 2.5kw router to a board held down by a few bricks..... controlled by am Arduino....
I am sure that linuxcnc would do a much better job with one of the non trivial kinematics as it's essentially a bipod
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/motion/kine...n_trivial_kinematics
kind of like the drawer slide CNC.... sure it works but really!

all good comments.
I thought I clarified, but I guess I didn't.
I like the low footprint space of the Maslow, I do NOT like the chains and pendulum layout, and want one with a more conventional gantry
yes, I know I'd need counterweights then
I was thinking more like this, but instead of a wood gantry, just a steel pipe one like on a MPCNC

I know I've seen a few different vertical plasma table designs, but they have no cutting forces, so the forces relative to cut direction would be the same and relatively easy (the same) to compensate for.
I am aware that that specific manufacturer did not I believe have a good reputation although I suspect it was to do with support and not that the table did not work in principle.
Sorry I've never seen one in the flesh, keen to see any progress you make

shhh, the plasma cutter is the project after this project, which is really after the other wood router project I posted elsewhere

I see no reason that a vertical router wouldn't work. Especially one with a vacuum bed.
Or how about a very strong vacuum bed and use the ceiling as the spoilboard
