Hello,

I am planning on building an 8 axis CNC router.
I have a raspberry pi 4 and 7i95 in my current setup, and I am already running a 5 axis router with it.
Can I add 7i85s on top of it to achieve 8 axis?

I am supposing that without messing with the current setup, I would be able to control 7i85s through RS-422 serial communication between 7i95 and 7i85s.

Thank you for your time.

That requires an IDC26 to DB25 male ribbon cable, easily found on Mesa shop and cheap, or if you do have any older PC, some of them had exactly that cable but with a female DB25, so would also need a gender change. Can we say " gender change" on the forum? The world has gone snowflaky lately ... :)

Thank you for getting back with such detailed answer in such a short amount of time.

I was exploring the possibility before placing the order, and I'd better hurry now that I have the answer. The chip shortage is affecting us quite considerably.

Certainly, "gender change" would be the least ambiguous way to put it for me. Technological terms have been traditionally this way and how I learnt it. I would be lost if we start re-inventing the terms :(
