Mesa - about fallback was created by macsddau@linuxcnc
Hi
Got a new 6i25.
I have some questions about fallback
Got a new 6i25.
I have some questions about fallback
- Is there a fallback written to EPROM when unpacking board ?
- If yes, witch one is it ?
- Again, if yes, is it required to write a new fallback ?
- Which one to write : a standard fallback or the same as written in user configuration block ?

1. Yes, a fallback is written in all shipped 6I25s
2. its a configuration with no features except GPIO (in addition it blinks the /INIT LED)
3. No, normally you should never need to re-write the fallback

1. Yes
2. ?
3. No
4. You shouldn't need to do anything with the fall back or even need to use it, unless you screw up the firmware by installing one that is incompatible with your card that prevents it from running. Then the fall back is to help restore the card to a state that will allow you to install a functional firmware after such an incident. (It is simply a safety net to help prevent you from bricking it from doing something stupid.) It is possible to overwrite the fallback if proper procedures are not followed.

Reminder, you forgot to add "not" there.
-
While on the subject, today i found out why some think they should do a fallback, in the manual, section "operation" subsection "mesaflash" there is a list of commands for use with it, it would be advisable to move the fallback commands to the "service" or "in case of a bad flash due to power cut or wrong bitfile" section of the manual.
This is the second time i read of users asking about fallback, and one already tried to do that flash verbatim from the manual.
