7I84D and smoke was created by mgm
I just plugged in my 7I84D and it smoked terribly !!!

The smoke came from below the red plug.

Unfortunately I do not know why .....

Attached is a photo of how I connected the 24V!

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

blue white = GND
blue = +24V

It looks like you have used the top pin as pin 1 . I think pin 1 is at the bottom

Yeah that is reversed and a short!
From down to up (or from left to right on your picture:
1,2,3,4,5 are +24V
6,7,8 are -24V
Chances are the board is burned beneath or under the connector and the rest is still ok.
Wire it correctly and power it again.
Beware that plugging and unplugging the power connector while powered will destroy the board. Also do not switch on and off the DC side or the two wires powering the board, switch the power supply input.

Hello guys
thanks for your clarification
Sometimes you're just fucking stupid!!!

I have indeed twisted the order ...

Now I have connected the board correctly and the LED CH2 and CH6 are on.  As in the picture. There is no cadcabel connected!

Nice, that should be OK for now.
Next, wire it to the control board, make a quick config and run LinuxCNC.
In the "machine" menu choose "show hal configuration" and there on the left side go to "pins", 7i84, 0, 2 (probably), inputs, then on the right side choose the "show" or "watch" tab then on the left choose input pins 0 to 15 and 16 to 31, those should all be brown/off.

OK thanks for the support I will try on Monday ...

Can I also connect the 7I84 via lan directly to the PC and read out for example with mesaflash? or is that too simple thought?

No, the 7I84 interface is RS-422 serial, not Ethernet

(you can connect to a PC RS-422 adapter, but that's a different subject)

Thanks for the info

The answer I could have given myself, because I made the cable to the interface of the 7I76e myself!

As soon as you do it right it works too

Thanks to the excellent work of mesa, if someone makes a mistake and the board still works !

Is it right that the inputs 0-15 are inverted?

input = true and
input-not = false

No, inputs are true when the hardware input is high
The hal input pins should all be false when the hardware pins are unconnected
(and the input-not pins should all be true(
