Hello,

My friend bought a 7i96S card and already has it at home. He found that he would need at least 100 inputs and at least 50 outputs. I know that RS485 IO can be used, but we want to build a machine on Mesa cards.

I figured we would use:
7i96S + firmware 7i96s_7i74d.bin
7i74 connect to P1
3pcs 7IA0 connect to 7i74

I have never used SmartSerial before. I wanted to ask if this combination would work. Can the 7i96S handle that much IO? These cards aren't cheap, so I'd hate to recommend something that doesn't work.

That combination will work (any sserial card combination should work)
but is more expensive than using 7I84 or 7I84D cards.
(if you don't need 2A isolated outputs or selectable sinking/sourcing inputs)

Yes, its a simple flat cable with a IDC DB25M on one end and a IDC HDR26F
on the other (pin1 --> 1 pin1, HDR pin 26 unconnected)

Mesa lists it as:
DB25M-IDC26 CABLE
