Use glass scales with 7i96S for closed loop feedback

On my RF45 Mill I have a DRO with glass scales.    I would like to know if I can use them with the 7i96S and my stepper motors for a closed loop system.  I understand that I can interface the scales to the 7i69S with a 7I85 or 7I85S and a DB25 cable.

My scales are Ditron DC10 with  .005mm resolution.  My calculations are as follows: The scales are 60m/min max working speed, which is 1m/sec@ 5um, that is  200,000 counts/sec .As it is a quadrature count of A/B, each channel is max 50Khz

So would this be fast enough for a closed loop system?  Or should I just use them for some other form of position verification.

thanks for the help

OK, Mesa can count much more than 50KHz, so for normal quadrature TTL level 5V encoders or glass scales you would need a Mesa 7i85 or 7i85S, one has Smart serials and encoders, the other has stepgens and encoders, i would go for smart serial as you already have 5 stepgens on Mesa 7i96S, both can probably do differential and single ended wiring.
I think there is already firmware made for such a combo, flashing it takes a single line and a minute of time.

You are welcomed, always.
Yes, the pup was fun, chewing on my foot every day, and strangely, never ever bit hard to scratch the shoes. :)
