Hi !
I had a 7i96s when i started the conversion of my mini mill. As I planned to add linear scales for feedback I bought a 7i89 daugther card. I already used the 7i96s in various project with success. But in pcconf when I select the 7i96s as card0 I can't see 7i89 in options for card1. Do I need a custom firmware ? Should I contact mesa ? Can I do the conf for the 7i96s in pcconf and add manually the 7i89 ?

You may be able to use pncconfs discovery option to allow setting up
the additional encoders.

You do need to use 7I96S firmware that supports the 7I89, that would be:

7i96s_7i89d.bin

Thank you. Shame on me, I thought I had to make the firmware myself. After a day of struggle I found it on mesa store 7i96s page specification -> software. So I just need to flash and try to proceed with pncconf ? HostMot2 is to modify a mesa card firmware and Xilinx studio to create one from scratch for any xilinx card including mesa ones ?

Yes, you flash the firmware with mesaflash (make sure you have a recent copy)
pncconf's discovery option will be needed to make the new firmwares encoders
visible.

The source code is there if you want to build you own configurations. Note the the 7I96S uses
an Efinix FPGA chip so needs the Efinity tool chain, not a Xilinx tool chain.

is this normal :
IO Connections for TB3 -> 7I89
IO Connections for TB1/TB2 -> 7I96_1
IO Connections for P1 -> 7I96_2

that should be 7i89 on p1 I think. The discovery option worked and, in pncconf, 7i89 inputs is at P1. I just had some pain to found the input tab of the Help window to paste the 7i96s_7i89d.pin file content. And the channel numbers are a little bit messed up inside each tab. Is there a chance of damaging a pin if there is a mistake in the file made with pncconf ? I will check in the hal file

It looks like you used the wrong dbname in the mesaflash command line.
 is should be something like:

mesaflash --device 7i96s --addr 10.10.10.10 --dbname3 7i89 --readhmid

Pncconf cannot do anything harmful

Using the wrong firmware that does not match the daughtercard can theoretically cause
damage (excessive current from conflicting outputs) but I have never seen this happen

Thank you; as always I should have read better the manual "Daughtercard specific pinouts can be specified by adding dbname3 cardname to
mesaflash’s readhmid command:" Can I ask you why it's named db3 as there is only one header ?

The db number is related to the port (a 7I96 has 3 ports  and the expansion port is the last)
Mesaflash probably should complain about db numbers for on-card ports.
