MPS2000/Taig Mill Driver Issue was created by ant0ny
I have the original MPS Micro Mill2000HD/LE and I am still using the original Driver setup. All has been working well till this morning I turn the machine on and not Zaxis.
I swapped the Z motor to the Yaxis driver and it moved fine so I would assume I have a dead driver?
Just to be sure... as I had just finished setting up a Manual Tool Change with Tool Length Touch Off ... so I went back to the HDD with the working install and setup... just in case I did screw up a setting in Linuxcnc. It was the same.
I pulled the box out and removed the cover but there is not obvious burn or smell or issue I can see on the board.
So can I..? and how would I go about using the Aaxis Driver to run the Zaxis..?
That's of course if it will work as it's on the same board but I'd like to try swapping them, while I workout what driver setup I should upgrade to.

Looks like a parallel port setup, so use the StepConf wizard to make a new config and just change Z axis pins to pin 8 and 9, save, run.
Or you can edit the existing hal file and set the Z axis to pins 8 and 9.

Tommy,
Thanks but I fixed it... I noticed the socket pins loose when I plugged the Zplug in with the lid off... so I just swapped the sockets around and using the Aaxis socket plugged into the Z driver and it works again. So I have to assume it was just the connection.
I do have another weird issue though, maybe someone could shine a light on.
I am using 2.7 and it is running great but I tried to install 2.8 and the latest 2.9 and using the same settings from 2.7... both result in the motors running rough like the is electrical noise but swapping it back to 2.7 it runs sweat again?
I am assuming it's to do with the drivers and maybe in step config I should be using something other then "other"

I would stick with 2.7.

Most probably due to latency issues as the 2.7 ISO used the RTAI kernel that has better latency on older PC's, while new LinuxCNC versions use the RT-Preempt version of the kernel that is better suited for new-er PC's.I am using 2.7 and it is running great but I tried to install 2.8 and the latest 2.9 and using the same settings from 2.7... both result in the motors running rough like the is electrical noise but swapping it back to 2.7 it runs sweat again?

Ok cool thanks... it is a HP4600 Workstation and it has a parallel port so it's I guess pretty old now... I might just do and image backup of this HHD and crack on using what I have.
