Dear members,

a simple question. I hope, that somebody knows the answer and responds.

I would like to connect 3 Heidenhain glas scales LS303  and 1 Heidenhain rotary sensor ROD450 via the EXEs.

Thanks a lot in advance and best regards

Hartwig

Any quadrature encoder counter should work.

I have LS403's with EXE's feeding into the 7i77 on my mill, and a ROD and modern servo's encoders feeding into a 7i85 on the lathe. As Andy said, any of the mesa cards with encoder inputs will work fine.

I have checked the MESA 7i97T documentation and the Heidenhain (HDH) EXE outputs. My idea of the connections is shown in the picture,

#1 Is my idea correct?

#2 Unclear are the connections of the HDH pins 10, 11, and 12. Do you have an idea?

Thanks a lot and best regards

Hartwig

The scale has an emitter (LED or bulb) and a receiver , so they both need power and ground, but per the note the power lines (pins 3 and 12) and the grounds grounds (pin 10 and 11) are internally connected. So you just need to supply +5VDC to either pin 3 or 12, and a ground to pin 10 or ll.

You show both Ua1 and Ua2 connected to pin 5 of the Mesa. Ua2 shoud be connected to pin7.

Oh wait, Ua0 / Ua0 is the index.

So you need them on Mesa pins 7 and 8, swapping Ua2 / Ua2 onto pin 1 and 2. It doesn't matter which way around the phases are connected
