Serial port driver board

Hi,

I'd like to start to say that i'm a "newbie" in the linux world. We're changing OS at work, and i'm fully discovering Linux, and i like it. As i'm making my own CNC, i make some search for linuxand i found the EMC2 project.

It appears to me as a very good news, but all my electronic boards are for serial port (at the beginning, i bought it for a windows software). So i'd like to know if somebody could tell me if , in a fear future, serial port will be support, or if there is a way to drive my board with EMC2, by writing an Addon like or any else.

Thank you for your help

What do your serially interfaced cards do?

EMC is normally not a good match for "smart" motion control products.
EMC is a real time system that works better with fast "dumb" peripherals
that do what the are told, when they are told to do it.

EMC supports serial for MODBUS but that is not real time.
A real time serial driver is possible but with a standard serial port you could only send
10 or so characters (115.2 KBaud) at the normal 1 KHz servo thread rate

Hi, i think serial port does not to with the driver. If the driver works with the controller, that is ok. You can also choose other ways for transfering files like U disk or CF card.
