pico-systems stepper was created by rich
I just got my pico-systems stepper control and us digital encoders for my hardinge lathe.I want to be able to do threading, other than the mechanical hook ups, where do i start as far as software additions to the EMC2?I'm not a programmer and I don't know all the buzz words/phrases. Can anyone help? Thanks - Rich

What are you looking to add to the software? or is this not the question?
Steppers and encoders normally don't go together.
For threading (not rigid threading but single point) you do need an encoder on the spindle at the minimum and some means to read the encoder AFAIK. The parallel port can do a low count encoder at slow RPM's if your latency is low.

Encoders are an excellent addition to steppers to maintain a lower cost system but still maintain the security of feedback. It can often be "costly" to stall a stepper, and while an encoder doesn't prevent a stall, it can catch it and prevent further motion (or damage).
