Hello everybody,

I've registered for this forum because of a project i'm starting.
I would like to retrofit my Maho mh400c with emc2.
This is because the old philips 432 control is broken and it's getting harder and harder to find the right parts for it.

I would like to use the original indramat 3trm2 servo drive and the linear encoders.

I found the following thing: <click>
It takes the step/dir signal and makes it into an +10v/-10v signal.

Perhaps its usefull?

Any info that can be usefull for my build would be highly appreciated.

Something like this?--->

Your tacho does not go back to the servo drives?

I'm doing a Hardinge lathe atm and used a Mesa 5i20 with 2 7i37's for I/O and a 7i33 to run the drives. The 7i33 takes the encoder feedback and sends out the +-10v to the velocity input of my drive.

They go back to my servo drive, the picture was just an idea.
I am a complete newby to this.

by the way, this is my servo drive:

Hi

ill reply here also
keep the info in 1 place, this should be a fairly easy setup todo.
the linear encoders might make things fun to tune for the motors in the PID depends where these are mounted etc but it shouldt be a mission imposible.

i would pick up a mesa 5i20 (or other sutable card) and use the 7I33 for analog out (io cards as john said)

if you have the manuals for the machine your life will be very easy

emc will have no problem running your machine
im sure maybe selling some of the control boards when done from the machien will fund the upgrade no problem

i'm still looking at those mesa boards, they are not very expensive.
but what do i need for the complete retrofit?

for 3 analog servos +spindle, a 5I20 +a 7I33(TA) + a 7I37(TA) will do as long as the 4 servo interfaces
provided by the 7I33 (4 +-10V analog outputs + 4 quadrature counter inputs)
and the 8 1A DC outputs and 16 isolated inputs provided by the 7I37 are sufficient for your I/O needs
you can add one more 7I37 for isolated I/O if needed

In addition, 2 or 3 AIO 50 pin cables would be required

Here is a picture of my setup using a mobo, hd, power supply, 5i20, 7i33, 2 7i37's. The Mesa boards are below the mobo. If your linear scales output the same signal as an encoder you won't need anything else. Notice the AIO 50 pin cables that go from the 5i20 to the daughter cards. Plan your installation well and get the right length cables.

Then there's anothor problem, my linear scales dont put out a quadrature wave.
apparently they give a sine wave.
I've been told this could easily be fixed witch a custom circuit using a comparator, but i'm no electrical engineer...
I've found somebody who can build this for me but i wonder if there is a existing solutions for this.

so basically my shopping list is the following:

A computer (of course)
A 5i20 card
A 7i33 card
A 7i37 card
Maybe another 7i37 card?
Some AIO 50 pin cables
Something to fix the sine wave to quadrature

What did i forget?
