I am trying to get LinuxCNC working with my old IBC912 that has 2 solenoids to plunge the z axis. I am using the z direction to control the first solenoid. I need to be able to turn on the 2nd solenoid after a slight delay and before the spindle move in the XY. I'm very green using linuxcnc so be gentle.

Do you have any feedback on the Z axis to indicate that it has moved? Ie. a prox for up and a prox for down?

I'd use M1xx commands to fire the solenoids similar to what I do with my collet closer on my Hardinge CHNC lathe.

Examples are in the manual.

As it stands right now - I just use the time to do it's imaginary steps in the -z direction with no feedback. When the z dir changes, I need another i/o pin to activate the 2nd solenoid after a short delay(1/2 second) and I need the 2nd solenoid to turn off at the same time it goes positive.

Also look at classicladder in the manual for sequencing operations with timers.

I'm trying to get my digital output dout-01 to be set when my zdir bit gets set. I have a single rung in CL with %I0 associated with zdir but I can't seem to get my %Q0 to turn on. I also don't have any extra lines in my postgui.hal file. I think I'm missing something very basic.

Can you attach the .clp file?

Did you make the connection in hal?

Watch the ladder with the ladder editor and make sure your output in classicladder toggles as you expect then open show hal configuration from the Axis menu and add your pins to a watch window to observe them.

I read it many times yet still missed the fact that in the postguihal I need to relate symbols in CL to the HAL - will try it Monday when I get back to work.

EDIT:
i'm used to software that does it all for you.;-)
