Hitachi Seiki VM-40 Retrofit was created by bevins
I am starting a retrofit on a Hitachi Seiki VM40. The original control is not working but everything else looks good.
Installed LinuxCNC and I am using a 5i25 and a 7i77 which is up and running. I am programming and learning as I go.
Here are some pics of the machine as it sits now.

With the ATC and P{LC, I am thinking I will run out of I/O on the 7i77. I will leave room to add an I/O board.

Have a look at the smart-serial boards.
Any one of these can be connected to the smart-serial port of your 7i77.

There is a wide range of capabilities there. The 7i64 can handle significant voltage and current. (which is why it is so much more expensive)

I don't think I would need the higher powered card. I will just be energizing relays. So the 7i84 will do fine I think.

Very neat wiring! You don't see that often.
