Micron position transducers was created by daninaustin
I'm trying to get an old ExCello mill converted to Linuxcnc but i'm having problems with the the encoders (at least i thought they were encoders, they may be resolvers.) Does anyone have information on Micron position transducers? I'm running a 5i25 with a 7i77 and assumed that the Microns were quadrature and would be easy to setup. I don't have any documentation on them but they are model number 36-302-977-0252. I took off the cover and it has a Singer transducer that says: Stator Input 2 Phase 12 volt rotor output 1 phase 6 volt. It doesn't appear to be optical. Any ideas on what i need to interface these to Linuxcnc? Will the 7i77 work or would i need the 7i49 or something else?

That is a resolver, so if you want to use mesa hardware, you would need a 7I49, a 50 pin FPGA card (say 5I24)
and some additional I/O

Tell us more about what you have. Specifically what kind of servo drives are paired with the motors. Often drives used with servos using resolvers may have a quadrature output for feedback to the control, so it is possible that other hardware may not be needed.

I have A-M-C servo drives. They are a custom version but i think they are basically a 20a20. The servo's have tach's on them but i was told that i shouldn't use them.

Are the tachometers currently connected to the drives?
If so, I would not change this

If the drive is an AMC 20a20, I'd do exactly as PCW says and keep the tach feed back to the drives, and then follow his previous advice about the other hardware.
Good Luck.

The original drives were old Westamp's. I'm trying to retrofit it with the AMC's and Mesa.
Thanks!
