Bostomatic BD 18-2 upgrade was created by Smarttowers
I just purchased a bostomatic BD 18-2 from NASA. The machine doesn't have any of the axis drivers. Since I'm going to need drivers I'm planning to upgrade the machine to linuxcnc. The servo motors are Glentek GM4040-41-00906101-159. I need to find some drivers capable of running these servos preferably reasonably priced. Also I really need to find some writing diagrams for the upgrade.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I'm including a picture of the motor id plate, and the pdf spec sheet.
The motor is brushed rated 180vdc, 9.1A.
I decoded the model number.
There is no brake installed, no tachometer, and a special encoder.
Thanks for the quick reply

The motor is easy to deal with, but that special encoder is not, as there is no info on it.
For the drives, anything from GeckoDrive.com with limited speed for 80V, Pico-systems.com has some 120V ones, Mesanet.com has 7i29 that is a dual 165V drive for two motors, etc.
One option is replacing those encoders with normal incremental ones.
There are other parts that should also be included depending on encoders and the choice from the above.

I'm going to try contacting glentek to see if i can get more details on the encoder. I found these gecko drives that have been "upgraded" supposedly can support 150vdc.
www.ebay.com.au/itm/322460615556
Are there any other drivers that are higher voltage rated I've had a hard time finding suitable power rated drivers.

I've taken the motors out and checked the encoder it is a 5000 cycles per revolution quadrature A&B with index. I need to get another as one of them was previously removed from the y axis servo. I am wondering if it's possible to add a higher ppr coder to one axis and have it behave similar to the other two.
I also have a lot of work to figure out what other hardware I'm going to need for the update. Are there any good resources on updating a older mill with some advanced features like ATC and dual spindle and hydraulic pump for the drawbar.
Thanks again for any assistance.
