Hi everyone.
I have a Renishawn PL2 probe lying around that want to use as a tool touch probe when doing tool changes manually.
I found the documentation foir the probe online but im still struggling with how to wire it in to my Mesa 7I96 board?
The probe has 4 wires and needs power i assume, does anybody know how to wire it up to the Mesa board?
Attached is a photo of the probe and the documentation for it.
Thanks in advance.

Is it a conventional kinematic probe internally, or does it use piezo-electric sensors?
Can you see any change in state between various combinations of wires with a multimeter?
How are the 4 wires connected to the probe body?
I have a TP200 probe that I have never figured out how to interface to.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for trying to help out once more.
I disassembled the probe and measured the easy to reach internal contact points connection to the different color wires, there seems to be no connection. I have been able to send 24v through one color wire to another wire but no change when probe is activated. I dont remember what color it was but some of the wires are connected but only when a 24v is applied not by measuring with a meter.
I have no other hardware like between my probe and Mesa board.
I attached some additional photos of the probe disassembled.

It looks like you do at least have the interface unit.
I suspect that it might be a piezo device.
Do you have an oscilloscope?

OK, i dont have enough knowledge about the equipment to besides what you see in the pictures, i dont have an oscilloscope on hand but i can properly get one if it could help?

Im starting to wonder if the probe needs some kind of external electronics en between py Mesa board and the probe in order to function.

I think you need a Renishaw interface box for these
Either the simple hardwired interface (HSI) or one of
the fancier optical or radio links
LP2 manual:

A HSI on EBAY (Not sure if this is the right one, more study is needed)

Hello @BastianMC
I have an MP3 probe, I still don't have it connected, there are only two cablesI think the easiest thing would be to get a RENISHAW interface, if you can make it work, could you explain how? Thank you.

MP3 is really simple, that is just a switch, no interface needed.
Only drawback is how big they are.
