That's typical because the drive input is differential (for noise immunity) 
but the analog out from the controller is single ended.

It wasn't so easy to see the amount of rpm's but I did some more testing and managed to start a program with a lot higher speed than I was able to do in manual mode, so the driver card is -10V/10V.
Ok good, I think I'll go for the mesa 7i92M and 7i77.
