It looks like DC servos, probably +/-10V control.
Do you have a PC with PCI or PCIe ? Or would you prefer to connect via Ethernet?
The 7i97 would be a good choice, except that they are out of stock.
So perhaps
store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...83_85&product_id=379
and
store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...id=120&search=analog
There are also options using the parallel port (as a communications bus, not bit-bashing)
pico-systems.com/PPMC.html
Or
store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...ct_id=70&search=7i43
and
store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...=83_86&product_id=74

does the machine currently operate ???
it matters for figuring things out. a friend of mine has the same machine, but he had anilam controls, we're replacing the servos etc, his motors are really worn.

As far as i can gather, Mesa 7i96S and Mesa 7i77 are available most of the time, so maybe go for that?
It is the most versatile combo for sure, 5 stepgens, 1 spindle, 6 of +-10V PWM one of those is for spindle or servo, plenty of IO, plenty of SSerial for expansions just in case, etc etc.
The difference in price should be 50 to 80$ more, not sure as i have not looked at those in a while.

kb electronics has some affordable dc drives, as does pico systems. if you watch out, you can occasionally pickup glentek drives in ebay for a song, the pwm brush dc drives are superb

No, they all work almost exactly the same. (I seem to recall that the actual best performance FPGA card is the EPP-interfaced 7i43).
But they all have lots more capability than is needed for LinuxCNC applications.

In Cyprus? I am puzzled by those (ie, why he has so many). 5i25 works great (you would pair it with a 7i77) but you need a full-size PCI slot.i did find a 5i25 on ebay would that work ?

Now even more puzzled, as it says "Vilnius, Cyprus" (Vilnius is not in Cyprus) but it is a UK seller.
