I did some googling and there’s nothing about HSCI . Heidenhain are really secretive about their stuff ,no wiring diagrams ,only the basic information. I guess it works as a business model.
i think at this stage there are 2 options to choose from.
1. Go with Heidenhain drives and TNC Controller ,probably very expensive
2. Strip everything out and install another servo-drive combo and go with Linux+Mesa ,probably very time consuming

After some extensive googling and some back and forth with some Servo+drive manufacturers we are still searching for Motors and drives. In the mean time we striped everything of the machine and we found that the installed Servos were smaller than the ones specified in the schematics.
All the servos are the same ,Heidenhain QSY96G which have 1,4Kw and a moment of inertia of 6,3kg*cm2..I have found similar servos but with about 25% less moment of inertia. Does this influence noticeably the acceleration/deceleration ramps ?
Another thing that I found out is that servo motors, annoyingly, don’t use the NEMA sizes .It’s like the potatoes in an organic food store, everyone a different size.
I am gonna put here the specs of the QSY96G servos maybe someone can help me find suitable Drives .
power 1,4Kw
voltage 291V
current 3,3A
torque 3Nm
max current 25A
max torque 22Nm
moment of inertia 6,3kg*cm2
encoder incremental 1Vss

Do the motors have tachos on them and what voltage do they output?
Encoder incremental 1Vss does not seem right, should be TTL level normally so 5V or more.
1Vss is ok for resolvers although they can do more...

Scour ebay.de for Kolmorgen, those can be found for good prices although last i looked was probably two years ago.
But you do need to have the above info correct before jumping in.

The servos don’t have tacos .The encoder is the ERN1387 which is listet as an incremental encoder in the data sheet with the “schnittstelle” being 1Vss. It does say ,in the data sheet, that it needs 5V . As I understand these encoders give an analog sinus-cosines signal which then gets converted by the driver electronics to digital signal.

We've recently suffered a problem on our DMG CTX 310, with an error on the HSCI bus. Had to change the PLC I/O board, which is not cheap.
Finding a generic drive for those servos might be a problem. If I were you I'd toss the Heidenhain stuff, make some servo motor mounting adapters and just get new servo+drive sets.
I worked on a project with some Leadshine EL7-EC servos and drives through EtherCAT (although not with LinuxCNC, but they could easily be integrated) and can recommend them. Very smooth motion, quick integration and easy tuning. I also used a Mesa 5i25 + 7i76 on another project and the Leadshine EL6/EL7-RS should work just as fine through Step/Dir.
Motors are compatible with both series (23-bit encoder). Big pluses of EL7-EC vs. EL6/EL7-RS is (to me) STO. Both series are relatively inexpensive.

Leadshine was one of the manufacturers we had in mind and we asked one of the distributors for a quote . They recommended the 130mm flange range but we have no space in the machine to mount these motors so we asked them for a quote for the 100mm flange and they said that these servos are not that good and that in May they are releasing a new improved version .
Meanwhile i found this italian company called MotorPowerCompany which would have the fitting servos for our machine .Anyone has or had any experince with them?

Today i took some pictures of the machine . This is a small machine with a footprint of 120cm x140cm x 170cm but weighs a whooping 4000Kg. Its made from epoxy granit of some sort. The last picture is how the machine used to look ,it´s the only picture i found online.
