Automatic band saw marvel v10a was created by tcbmetalworks

I recently had a marvel v10a automatic band saw fall into my lap. It's in pretty rough shape and I am considering doing a restoration on it. I was told the electronics are in potentially broken condition. I think it would be a neat project to retrofit the control, and would be useful to be able to upload cut lists to the machine via USB to further automate the cutting process and have a hmi. The machine does not currently auto miter and only allows 1 direction mitering. I think I can modify it to miter both directions, but need to further investigate if i can I will try to add auto miter. This thread will serve as a build log if I make progress on the project. Has anyone seen any examples of retrofits being done on band saws? What would be the best way to go about taking on this project.

Wouldn't be to bad to use linuxcnc. I'm in the process of building an automated saw with a magazine to load bars.

How does the bar feed work?
How does the saw feed work?

That's would determine my approach

Seems pretty simple compared to what i had to deal with, namely a fully automated one with drilling on 3 sides included.
I would definitely use LinuxCNC, but i might be biased having done over 20 or 30 conversions! :)

This will be the second machine in the shop powered by linux. I'm getting close to having the 10x15 plasma table I've been building completed. Got all the motors/mechanical finished. The way the bar feeder works is it has 2 hydraulic clamps and one clamp is connected to a ball screw. Threw cycles of clamping unclamping and movement of the screw it carts the material forward.
Still unsure if I'm going to move forward with this saw project or not the saw is in pretty rough shape I'm bringing it home today or tommorow but I most likely will. I also bought a cnc lathe the same day a hyundai hit 20m for $1000 it's in nice shape but haven't been under power for 4 years and had some connection issues when we put it under power. So I definitely have my hands full here with projects. What do you guys think about gui how should I go about making one?

Do you have any photos of your project or a build thread?

Got the saw back home. She's definitely rough. Good news is it looks possible to make the saw miter in the opposite direction by removing one support bar. The way the shuttle seems to work is it has a ball screw with a limit switch on it to control the length that the hydraulic retracts. Once it hits the limit switch it stops the hydraulic from further feeding forward. I may rework the vices as they currently have a very shallow depth of hydraulic travel. The bearings in the saw wheels feel sloppy but smooth. In the morning I am pressure washing the whole machine and may try to put power to it to see if anything still works. If I can reuse hydraulic pump and band saw motor that would be awesome!

This saw seems to be primarily ran on 110v to control all of the limit switches hydraulics solenoids motor starters etc. What's the best way to control 110v with a mesa card? I know I can make a bank of relays but it seems a little extra for all of these functions having a huge board of relays. I pressure washed the saw down today put power to it and was able to force my way through making each function work. U could proably run the saw as is like a regular saw but the auto feed system is totally junk and needs to be rebuilt.

Okay so I ordered a 7i76eu board a 10.9 touch screen a vandal resistant keyboard and mouse and a little fan less pc. 5v powersupply and a 24v powersupply. A incremental ebay linear encoder. I also programmed a little python program that will act as a gui.

I was able to make a basic gui to turn on and off 2 leds using cursor. Pretty cool tbh. It took 2 days of pain in the ass vibe coding to get it done but now that I'm here everything should be smooth sailing. This is really a new method to make gui that is not talked about much. In my opinion it's much easier then trying to learn a few programming languages. Pretty neat because cursor is pretty strong at using the ai to make python gui. I don't think I would use it for a mill but for basic input outputs it should be strong enough.
