7HP Tracer Mill Adaptation... Need Suggestions was created by Ironhorse13
Hi all,
This is my first post so I hope I am not to far off catagory here. I have a large 7 HP 3phase SAJO (sweden) knee type tracer mill I purchased about 5 years ago with intention of adapting LinuxEMC to. I have done nothing so far other than I just downloaded the newest stable version of EMC2 and am seeking suggestions of where to get the technical info that will be required to adapt EMC to my mill. It uses a GETTYS Transducer on the tracer and Huge GETTYS motors drive the 3 axis travels. Any tips, links, and pointers appreciated in advance.
best regards, Jerry
PS: I will take digital photos of the mill and all components and connections to attach to my next post for reference.

Hi can you describe the drives? mostly are they servo drives or stepper drives or mechanical (clutches)?
For cnc of course you need servo or steppers.
so for servos - you need to decide on motors, drives and encoders and interface card
for steppers - motors, drives and maybe interface cards.
look on the wiki wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?EMC2_Supported_Hardware for interface cards that work with emc.

Welcome to EMC. Yes, do post some pictures of your mill. The main thing you need to figure out if you determine you have servos AFAIK is what kind of signal the drives want and what kind of feedback the motors have.
I'm just begining with servos so there is much I have to learn yet about them.

Hey All,
I finally uncluttered enough of my mill to take some pics. The drive motors for the 3 axis are giant servo motors (see pics). There is one pic of all the relays and contactors that control the servos and a pic of the manual control panel also; I assume I will need some sort of interface between the manual control panel and EMC. Anyhow feel free to take a look at the pics and post any questions or suggestions you might have or if more pics or details are needed let me know. Till then, Jerry

Well, so much for the pics... either I don't know how to post them or they are to large as I got a message that my image exceeded 800 pixel limit or something. Tried to figure out how to post about 6 pics but have not figured out how yet, Sorry, Jerry

Jerry,
It looks like you can only attach one image to each message with a limit of 800 x 800 pixels and a max of 150 KB
Another option is to use imagebin.ca and just put the links in your message.

I'm not sure John, it was set up for doing "Stanley" wrenches and if you look hard you can see the pattern blocks attached to the table. I have never ran it yet and am just now ready to run the wiring for it so I figured this is a great time to dig in to adapting EMC. Jerry
