Help needed! SEI DT router 650. was created by Borideleon
I recently purchased this old machine. It in really good condition and was well maintained. Yet it came with no user manual or anything. I have installed the 10.04 ubuntu with EMC2 pack on with purpose to operate this machine. However i found myself unable to make it work, especially that the CNC router can be only connected with COM1 port.
Does anyone familiar with this router or a way to operate it via COM1 port with EMC2 ? Am i asking too much? Or is it a lost battle i am getting in?

EMC does not work with a serial port.
EMC can do step and direction on the parallel port for steppers and control servos and steppers with pci hardware like Mesa and a few other things/ways.
What kind of drives does the machine have? Stepper or servo motors?
Steppers are fairly easy to connect up to suitable drives like Gecko if your drives are not compatible with step and direction control.

It is servo operated. I guess Windows base computer is needed. Is there a way to at least find it's user manual?

Why would you need a Windows based computer?
I assume you contact the manufacturer of the machine for documents and the original control program if you don't wish to convert it...

It's an Italian company SEI. I contacted both, them and local official dealer, with no success so far. Everything in my workshop runs Linux,so naturally i assumed to keep using it with this router.
I am completely new to world of EMC, actually,so sorry for maybe obvious questions.
SEI was kind enough to send me the manual today. Starting to learn this machine more deeply.

Let me rephrase my request. What is needed in order operate this CNC router through serial port while using Pentium III pc( assembled from scraps) ? What is need to be added or installed? Refer to me as complete rookie.

You would need the original control program to run that machine through the serial port. It sounds like a "smart" controller ie a controller that handles the motion calculations. This type of controller requires usually a proprietary program to control it.
EMC only works with dumb drives ie drives that take step and direction or velocity/torque with position feedback as the motion calculations are done in EMC.
Does the machine have DC servos? Do you have a photo of the machine and drives?
