I recall a post regarding updating Ubuntu. DO NOT UPDATE the Kernel.
What about installing and initiating the NTP Internet time protocol to update the clock via Internet servers?
Okay?, or does it mess with the RTAI of LinuxCNC?

it's the kernel that must not be updated nor the distribution upgraded eg 10.04 to 11.04
Everything else should be fine to update.
