So, is there any output from hy_vfd with debugging turned on?

I am pretty sure I have figured out what is wrong. I found a thread about missing RS485 chips on MACH support. I checked and I have no chip in my vfd. I ordered some and will let you all know after I install it.

Use the -g switch in the loadusr line, as described in the manual page.

Put the RS485 IC in the vfd and still no comms. I've beat this dead horse long enough I give up.
