Hi there. I'm new to this & am trying to get a handle on the 'best'/better direction to go. I'm a fulltime carer & heading to 67 this year & my head works exceptionally slowly though I know how to plod through issues. Allow me to give an overview of my situation. I hope this isn't too diverse. I'm hoping you, whoever, can point me to the right articles etc.
1. I'm looking to replace the Window Mach 3 system we're running the CNC machine on.
2. Which is a 4 axis ChinaCNCzone 6040 milling machine, that’s giving me intermittent problems.
3. I want to eventually do proper animal / flower etc relief carving from my own designs. Possibly full 3D on the 4th axis.
4. I have 3 computers at present.
    a. Win 10 32 bit that runs the CNC machine.
    b. My desktop Win 10 &
    c. my laptop Win 11 system.
5. On the last 2 I've done most 2D design in FreeCAD but now am heading to Blender & am looking to  adding blenderCAM into blender which I've tried in Win 10 without success.

I'm looking to got to Lynux as it appears that most of the programs I am using are designed for that platform with Windows etc as an after thought almost.
So questions include.
1. Am I heading the right way?
2. Is Ubuntu suitable for all PCs? including 32 bit. I haver downloaded the latest already. Fun learning a new OS.
3. Can't think of another question at this point.
Looking forwar to your helpfull directing.
CD
PS I have programmed in a previous life.

1. For machine control as far from windoze = better
2. It is but we avoid Ubuntu due to some copyrights, I use Mint, officially Debian is supported, some here are going the MX route.
3. Hopefully if you do, we answer it faster ! :)
PS on the PS, programing then and now = not the same thing, not even close = now much easier.

Thank you muchly.
So are you saying widows is better realtime processing? Isn't linuxCNC designed for lynux systems or have I misunderstood your reply?
I'll go look at Mint & check out the MX route.

Windows has no realtime anything.
Windows is bad for machines.
LinuxCNC does not need controllers, it is a machine controller, so no 8 bit or 32 bit controller required.
You need:
A PC with parallel port OR a Mesa board, drives and motors.

RodW has a nice video on youtube covering a lot of things, Talla has plenty of videos in German, i have some build videos of not much use, AndyPugh has some nice videos of what LinuxCNC can do.
If you search for LinuxCNC on youtube there are plenty of very informative videos (can not recall user name of one with very detailed videos, shame on me).
