There is Mint 19.3 or Ubuntu 19.04.
-
Boot the other generic kernel, see if that has issues with USB.

There is no such thing as Ubuntu 19.3!!!... This one is running Ubuntu 19.3 and LinuxCNC 2.8.4 with QTDragon.

I knew I shouldn't have trusted my feeble memory. It is Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia
Linux X3CNC 4.9.0-13-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 4.9.228-1 (2020-07-05) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'll give that a try Tommy
Thanks

I found the USB issue. There was one more connection that I forgot about on a USB extension cord that has a repeater in it. I exercised that connector and the problem is gone.

If you are using linuxcnc, please throw versions of Ubuntu and Linux Mint in the bin.
Yeh I know it won't be something you will not like to do but its for the greater good and a functioning machine.
I had to give up Linux mint a few years ago for this greater good.
You will just waste a lot of time for no reason.
The kernels they are based on are too old to have acceptible latency and often will not have drivers for modern hardware.
In many cases the Python version they come with is too old for linuxcnc.
In Ubuntu's case they want you pay for the PREEMPT_RT kernel.
Whereas you can just install the current version of Debian (Version 12 - Bookworm) and type a couple of lines and have a functioning machine with preempt_rt installed.
Type a couple more lines and you can connect Debian 12 to the new Linuxcnc buildbot so you can update at any time byt typing one line.
Do yourself and the world a favour and revert to Debian Bookworm forthwith,
Please refer to this link instead. linuxcnc.org/docs/2.9/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html

Rod, the title reads "Problems with debian Bookworm" not problems with mint or ubuntu.

The tittle is very wrong, it should be "problems with USB" as pointed at in my first reply to the topic linked here.
The exact issue/reply :

Hey, i still use Mint on all but one machine/PC/laptop!
The "not Mint" Acer laptop has Debian BookWorm with 6.1 kernel, works fine, no latency/connection issues, but it is used for testing only so far.
Has issues with keyboard or touchpad, one of those never works, depending on how it feels at boot. When the keyboard goes on strike, it does not work for BIOS also.

When I first started this thread I was only seeing an issue with bookworm and LCNC 2.9. The Mint and 2.8.4 where fine. But, the issue turned out to be a hardware issue (bad USB) connection that only seem to aggravate Bookworm. As soon as I get 2.9 on Bookworm fully working I'll be switching permanently. I need to get my M6 remap working. After that I think I will be good to commit. I'm also considering upgrading from the BAT1-J1800 + 6i25 + 7i76 to a ODroid H2+ + 7i76E.
