As I recall I got the feed following error down to < 0.0005" on the CHNC by using halscope and trying tiny amounts of FF's after getting it as best as I could with PID.

your encoder resolution is going to hold you back. .0004 is pretty course.
but you should get much better then .05 ! and your acceleration should be able to go higher.
you need to tune them more.
Is there no encoder on the motor too?

The Z axis has an encoder on the ball screw with 2540 counts per revolution and the X and Y axes have linear glass scales with the same resolution. It was designed to be a .0005"/.01mm machine back in the 80's. There are a ton of these out there, and I know several owners ready to go to ECM2 if I can get this thing functioning as well as they do with the Anilam controllers.
