Configuring 5i23 7i52 7i73 was created by gorjanc
I'm new to the linuxcnc
I will like to connect 7i73 to 7i52 which is connected to 5i23.
I didn't find options for configuring daughter cards in pncconf.
using the encoder inputs on 7i52 will also be nice.
Thanks for the help.

The 7i73 is supported in PNCconf though just as basic I/o, encoders and analog in.
The 7i52 is not supported in PNCconf and I'm not sure linuxcnc does yet.
Peter or Andy will surely answer that question.
If it is supported by liuxcnc I will have to add support to PNCconf.
To use smart serial daughter cards with the 5i23 you must have firmware that include smart serial components.
Unfortunately the linuxcnc firmware repo is way behind on new firmware.
There are ways to add firmware descriptions to PNCconf outside of the repo.
And of course you can always create a config by hand....

The 7I52 is supported by linuxCNC
The HostMot2 driver (and hence LinuxCNC) does not need any specific support
for different configurations unless they contain new hardware
modules (and the 7I52 and 7I52S normally don't use anything different)
The standard configuration for the 7I52 is SVSS6_6 (6 encoders, 6 sserial channels)
The 7I52S has 6 encoders and configurations with 6 step/dir or PWM/dir outputs

Peter to the rescue for clarity!
So the bottom line is you can use the hardware with linuxcnc, you have to add some firmware files in the right place (not a problem)
but at the moment PNCconf is not going to be helpful - till I add the 7i52 info...

So I need to get my head back in the PNCconf game !
As the 7i52 isn't a smart serial daughter board it doesn't need anything added to PNCconf.
You just need the right firmware file as Peter mentioned.
The firmware defines the 5i23 pins / components to be what and where the 7i52 expects them.
PNCconf allows you to select what linuxcnc signals these connect to.
By setting the 5i23 pins in PNCconf then plugging the 7i52 into the corresponding 5i23 connector - your good.
The firmware also defines where the smart serial channels are.
PNCconf allows you select what daughter board (within it's list) you will connect to what channel
This pops up another set of tabs that set you select what linuxcnc signals these will correspond to.
The 7i73 is a smart serial board, so has separate tab for defining it's pins. after you select which smart serial channel you will use.
Are you confused yet?

Thanks for the help
For the beginning I need SVSS6_6 firmware, or can I use firmware for 5i20 card?
I'm not yet confused, just too little knowledge in my head

Each card type needs its own firmware, so 5I20 firmware will not work on a 5I23
freeby.mesanet.com/SVSS6_6.BIT is the proper firmware for a 5I23 and 7I52
6 encoders plus 6 sserial channels on 7I52, 7I52 connected to 5I23 P2

Thanks
Peter can you please give me also the .PIN file, so I can make .XML file for pncconf (i hope)

freeby.mesanet.com/SVSS6_6.PIN
pin file
freeby.mesanet.com/SVSS6_6.XML
test XML file
Sorry took an extra day (Monday was a holiday here)
Oops Chris Morely pointed out the XML file has a tag error (secondarymodulename mispelled secondarymodulenane)
I will fix tomorrow (you could global replace nane with name in the meantime)
Misspellings in xml files fixed (1/23) so the xml file should be re-fetched
