newbie having trouble configuring 5i25

I believe that I am doing the same conversion as drembedded but on a Beaver NC5
I have the mesa 5i25 and 7i77 combo kit
Linux cnc has been installed from the live disk
To make 5i25 appear in pncconf, 5i25_xml has been loaded in to hm2, then 5i25update was installed and run.
This allows 5i25 to be selected but the following error message appears before continuing.
When the 5i25 setup page is reached there is no firmware ( it is not listed under hostmot2 either )
There is no mention of 7i77 anywhere, except in the 5i25 folder in hm2 where I changed the permission of 7i77 to allow to be executable .
Any help appreciated.
All afternoon has been spent learning and forum searching, but I cannot find where the fault lies.
The 7i77 has three yellow leds lit.

how did you add the XML files? There was a permission problem. Did you try the script in the last posting here:

i'd guess it is a permissions problem with the xml file , or it is in the wrong location
the 7i77.xml file need to be in /lib/firmware/hm2/5i25
i'm in the UK if you need any direct help . pm me
the 5i25 has it's own firmware loaded , it is not required to load on startup like other Mesa cards , so their is no bit files needed to be installed
however for pncconf to work it needs the matching xml file for the firmware loading , it requires this file to be in the location specified above .
what firmware is loaded on your 5i25 can be found on a label on the 5i25 pcb i.e 7i77x2 etc
use the 5i25 update.zip file , do not change any permissions once installed , it does not need to be made executable , the installation script will ask for your root password

Thank you for your replies.
The 5i25 board has 7i77x2 on the sticker
Reloaded the xml files and run the update but still the same error window after selecting 5i25 and no firmware found
Often I can be away for a few days delivering machines, so please accept my apologies for not responding to your replies quickly
regards
Edward

Can you try running the standard hm2-servo demo:
freeby.mesanet.com/7i77.zip
unzip this into your home/linuxcnc/configs directory
This will verify that the hardware is working
Note: a working 7I77 will have 4 yellow LEDs illuminated
I suspect you dont have any field power, not sure if this affects
pncconf or not

PROGRESS
I had not entered an address for the mesa card
Entered 0xffff , no errors on pressing the next button and firmware in the checkbox.
Should I use the default firmware selection, or should there be a 7i77 option available ?
Thanks again for the help so far, looking forward to reading an encoder signal.

5i25-7i77 demo loaded
12volts dc applied for vin power
Only 2 encoders wired in to test
Opened linuxcnc
selected 5i25-7i77 under configurations
4 yellow light on 7i77
red light to the right of rs422 connector turns to flashing green but no counts when turning the leadscrew by hand
( glass scales )
any thoughts ?

If that much works, most likely a encoder wiring error or
7I77 encoder mode (TTL or differential) does not match encoder
