Hi Chris,
I pulled the new_pncconf branch this morning trying to help Gene on the mailing list and wow it loads 100 times faster now.
When I got to Mesa card page and wanted to go further I get the pop up reminding me to create a stepgen for X and Z and that is great. It would be nice if there was an option in the pop up to skip that for now and get back to it later.
When I got to the X motor page and Forward is not active a clue would be great like the back ground of the Stepper Scale being yellow or something.
I'm not trying to be nit picky just pass on my observations as I work though it while trying to view it like I don't have a clue what to do.
Just finishing up a practice run and everything seems neat and clean and it built a configuration in the linuxcnc/configs directory for me.

Hey thanks for trying it out John!
I will look into Hi-lighting the missing info as you suggested.
What is also new is that it sets up the steppers as velocity mode rather then position.
I have not tested this a lot but this is what peter is recommending now.
And yes the hardest part is to think like a noobie - i habe too much experience.
But even having experienced people trying helps to flush out bugs.
Thanks again.

I'll try it out on my plasma table (5i25 7i76) Sunday and let you know what I get.

In another forum post there looked like there might be a pncconf error with PID stepgen configuration:
The PID maxoutput was set to 10
(since its a velocity command for a PID driven stepgen, it should be the same as stepgen maxvel)

should this be set at axis max velocity or stepgen max velocity?
We used to add 25% - 100% to stepgen max velocity...
Thanks.

It should be set to stepgen maxvel
Which in turn should be about 25% greater than the maximum velocity for the axis

Chris , i suppose this is now the hard part , as the 5i25 comes preconfigured , but being able to select somehow the 5i25 with 7i76 & 7i77 combinations would be excellent as defaults , but how to approach this is the problem i would think
(7i76 is stepper & 7i77 is servo ) and i would put next on the list the 7i73 pendant
let me know what you need direct and i'll try and answer Chris
