Looking to upgrade to Mesa Drive Board

I currently have a 4-axis mill with servo motors and am looking to upgrade to a Mesa drive board. It looks like the 5i20 and 5i25 are most popular. Any help on selecting a new board would be appreciated. I have become pretty comfortable altering the config files and working with HAL, but would still like to go with the simplest/quickest solution to get back up and running.

From what I can tell the 5i25 is best paired with the 7i77 daughter card for my application, but the 7i48 and 7i33 also look like they may be sufficient. Does anyone have any experience using these with the 5i25?

Also, if I go with the 5i20 will I need to use another daughter card?

There are two "families" of Mesa FPGA cards, some have 50-pin box-headers and some have DB25 connectors.

The DB25 cards are 5i25, 6i25 and 7i80DB
The 50-pin cards include 5i20, 5i21, 5i22, 5i23 and 5i24 and also the 7i43 EPP card.

The 7i7x and 7i8x cards suit the DB25 cards, the 7i3x, 7i4x 7i5x and 7i6x cards tend to suit the 50-pin FPGA cards.

Both families can be extended with smart-serial cards.

It might be best to work backwards from what you want to connect to and see what FPGA card you need to suit. The 50-pin cards have rather more pins in total. (7i76 and 7i77 have builtin smart-serial to add extra IO)
