Getiing a 5i25 with g540 going was created by blacksmith
My System:
Linux debian 3.4-9-rtai-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 3.4.55-4linuxcnc i686 GNU/Linux
Debian Debian GNU/Linux 7.9 (wheezy) 7.9 wheezy
LINUXCNCVERSION: 2.7.1
gecko has 4 steppers connected, charge pump switch is off.
Gecko G540
hal & ini file for g540 = freeby.mesanet.com/g540.zip
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --readhmid, Configuration Name: HOSTMOT2, BoardName : MESA5I25
Errors:
Watchdog error; I figured out the watchdog error was related to version 2.7.1 so I commented it out.
then I get this error:
Found file(REL): ./hm2-g540-stepper.hal
./hm2-g540-stepper.hal:180: parameter or pin 'hm2_5i25.0.stepgen.04.control_type' not found
I read a thread about stepgen.04 being incorrect, so I changed all to stepgen.03. That didn't help.
Any thoughts on this error?
Is there a fileset like freeby.mesanet.com/g540.zip that works?
Thanks

Have you flashed the 5I25 with g540 firmware?

why are you changing , what config are you looking for , something special etc ?
stepgen 4 is used for the chargepump , their is no stepgen 3
stepgens start at 0 x axis =0 y axis -1 z axis =2 etc
have you tried using pncconf to construct a config ?

Yes I did however if there is a way to verify the fact I would be happy to do so.

You can verify a pinout with this mesaflash command:
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --readhmid
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --readhmid

I changed the watchdog addf as that was my first error and the 2.7.1 release notes say that should be commented out.
The mesa site has the configuration files and I figured they were the definitive source as they made the board and should know how to write a config -> freeby.mesanet.com/g540.zip
The mesa site configuration files have the "stepgen.04" lines so I can only assume they were tested and guaranteed to work exactly as written. As a test I did change them from 04 to 03, which didn't make a difference.

from the CRP website sales text:
At 3.5 A/Phase, these motor put out an astounding 380 oz-in of holding torque, and a strong and steady running torque in a compact NEMA 23 form factor. Used with our 5-start lead nuts, we've driven machines at 600 IPM with these motors, and have seen over 900 IPM with our new rack and pinion system. Want to know more about torque ratings?

Without looking at the pinout, I'm pretty sure the 5I25 G540 P3 pinout has 5 stepgens (00 though 04)
(Stepgen 4 is used for feeding the watchdog so has only a step output and no direction signal)
The expansion connector has stepgens 05..09

Modified config to 4 xaxis
remember this is just the start point , their are no limits , home , spindle etc
pncconfig is the starting point to making a working configuration
axes are not slaved at this time , so you have 4 independant stepgens & the chargepump (stepgen 4)
