5i25 and 7i76 setup help? was created by nigel-tufnel
After hours of searching and reading, I still can't grasp how to configure my Mesa boards to reflect the actual connections of my wires on the 7i76 board and I need some help. I have attached a list of my actual connections to the TB connectors on the 7i76. I am not connecting anything to the PC printer port. All connections are to the 7i76 screw terminals. I tried to use the PNCConf wizard and have several questions.
1) What is "I/O connector 2" (see screen shot 1)? Where is this connector physically located? What does the "Num" column correspond to physically?
2) What is "I/O connector 3" (see screen shot 2)? Where is this connector physically located? What does the "Num" column correspond to physically?
3) Where is the tab for TB2 and TB3 on the 7i76 board? I understand the TB5 and TB6 tabs.
4) Where are the other connections for connector TB4 on the TB4 tab? What does the "Num" column correspond to physically?
Any clarification would be much appreciated or what am I doing wrong? Let me know if you have any questions with my setup, just ask. I can physically move connections on the 7i76 TB connectors if that makes life easier. Thanks!

IMHO all you questions are answered in the 7i76 manual.
You also can take my 7i76e connection sheet, published in the driver board section.

IO2 and IO3 are the 25-way connectors on the 5i25 or 5i26.
www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/5i25man.pdf
(Whenever I want info on a Mesa card I just google for the card name and "man" so "7i76man" will find you the 7i76 pdf manual)
IO2 is the box-header on the board and IO3 is the 25-way D-sub on the back. (P1 is the JTAG programming port, ignore that completely).
step and direction signals are led back one-to-one from the 7i76 to the 5i25. The GPIO signals are serially addressed so all share a couple of pins on the 5i25 connector.
I think that this is why PnCConf does not let you configure TB2 and TB3, those are hard-coded as step-dir according to the layout in the manual ( mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/7i76man.pdf )

Nigel, did you get this sorted out. I am in the same predicament as you.
What did you end up doing?
I understand what has been stated in this post except that if I have decided to connect step and direction to TB2 and not fill out the TB5.TB6, TB4 on the Pncconf app, it tells me "you forgot to designate a stepper or pwm signal for axis x,y and Z"
Which I would have thought would be done through TB2 and TB3.

I03 is where you set your step and dir. for x,y,z.
TB5 and 6 is where you set your input/outputs, home, limit etc click on one and it will give a list to chose from.
Take 10 minutes and click on everything to get familiar with it.

I think the connections are the same as the 7i76
