Mesa 7i96 and LinuxCNC 2.8

Is there a place where there is a central repo of documentation for the Mesa 7i96 card and how to use it in LinuxCNC 2.8?

There are some scattered fragments of (outdated) info, nothing really recent and to the point. There is talk of a 7i96 branch of LinuxCNC where the PncCConf wizard is functional, but when I look at the Github repo there is no branch named like that. I have a gantry cnc machine, uses parallel bob's right now. I want to use LinuxCNC 2.8 because I like the function to autohome both y-axes to stop raking.

I found some hidden ini and hal files on the freebie.mesanet site, it is beyond me why they 'hide' this information at their site.

This thread forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/3276...-7i96-ethernet-board looked promising but it got hijacked real soon and is not relevant anymore :(

Would be real gratefull if there was some decent up-to-date documentation for the combo of LinuxCNC 2.8 and an 7i96 mesa card.

LinuxCNC 2.8 has full driver support for the 7I96 but the 7I96 is not currently supported by pncconf so you must either edit a sample hal file or a pncconf created hal file to make it compatible with the 7i96

The 7I96 branch is where 7I96 specific development was done before it was merged into master (2.8)

Aha, so it is already merged? That is great news!
