Hello everybody, thank you in advance for any help you have to offer. I bought a cncnest outfit and haven't been successful getting any motor to work yet. I know I have it narrowed down to a few things to get some motion but I have a growing stack of cards.
I have basic configuration problems after installing a 5i25/7i76 kit from MESA into my older computer (4yrs old) it would not boot at all.
So I installed it into my newer computer system's blue pci slot (2 years old), It boots up fine.
But, when I run lspci-v in the terminal, I don't get a return that mentions any parallel port.
The jumpers are as follows; W1 up, W2 down, W3 up, W4 up, and W5 up.
I plan to use the internal 5vdc to power my 7i76 plug n play card.
Two red lights flash momentarily on the 5i25 card just as it powers on, but no lights on after the boot.
The paraport base address is 0 in the stepconfig file. I know that is wrong.

1. The 5I25 is not a parallel port so will not show up in lspci as one, here is the 5I25
DEVID in your list:
[ 0.429282] pci 0000:04:05.0: [2718:5125] type 00 class 0x110000
[ 0.429299] pci 0000:04:05.0: reg 10: [mem 0xfd100000-0xfd10ffff]
2. You dont use stepconfig for mesa cards but pncconf instead

I had the not booting problem with the 5i25, I traced it to a PSU issue not a motherboard one.
I tried 5 motherboards with the same PSU before I discovered that and then I tried 3 of them again with a different PSU and all 3 booted fine.

Please attach TXT files, not DOC files as they may contain macro viruses

Ok, will do. Is there any particular file you would like to see other than dmesg or lvpci ?

Thank you for that valuable info, i have several 5i25 and 6i25, but never had a single issue with them in any of the over 20 PC's that i have tested them with. That is mainly because i use exclusively older "enterprise edition" PC's.I had the not booting problem with the 5i25, I traced it to a PSU issue not a motherboard one.

Also do pay attention to setting the 5i25 and 7i76 to be powered from the 5i25, both of them have jumpers that have to be set correctly for that purpose.

Not for now, you need to use the LinuxCNC pncconf Wizard from the menu to create a config, then check if everything works as expected.Ok, will do. Is there any particular file you would like to see other than dmesg or lvpci ?

On the 5i25 card I have W1 up, W2 down, W3 up, W4 up, W5 up.
On the 7i76 I have W1 right, W2 left, W3 left, W4 right, W5 right, W6 right.
Can you help me verify these please ?

7i76
W1 left <<<< this will set the board to use only one field power supply, Right ONLY if you have separate power for Vin and Vfield.
W2 left
W3 left
W4 depends on encoder left=TTL, right=differential
W5 depends on encoder left=TTL, right=differential

I'm excited now !
I have 24 volts + on Vin and - on Vfield.
I have a good feeling about it. I will let you know as soon as I can get to the shop....
