Motors Pulse Not Jogging

Hey all,

Setting up a new machine, and I cannot get the motors to jog. Both when using pnconf to test or trying to run linuxcnc app they do the same thing. Essentially they are pulsing, they will spin a little but will not jog with the machine. And they only pulse in one direction. Any thoughts? I have tried playing with the settings and nothing seems to make any difference. I am beginning to think it is a wiring error.

Hardware:
Mesa 7i76e
All Drives are Gecko 201x
Main axis motors are nema 34 and z axis is nema 23

This is not my first build, previously had this machine and computer running using DM drivers and recently upgraded to geckos. Trying to set up the new drives and am running in to this problem. Any thoughts? I have the drives wired step -, dir -, and common from all the connectors per a connection sheet I found here.

How are the drives wired to Mesa?
Mesa has differential outputs for step/dir, while Gecko most probably has single ended inputs.
Also make sure the step and dir are wired to their respective place.

I have them wired as such.

Mesa TB2 Pin 2(step -) goes to Gecko Pin 9(step)
Mesa TB2 Pin 4(dir -) goes to Gecko Pin 8(dir)
MEsa TB2 Pin 6(+5vp) goes to Gecko Pin 10(Common)

I tried mesa pin 1(gnd) to gecko pin 10 and got no movement or pulse from the motor at all.

That seems OK, so set the step time and step space to at least 5000 and test again.

And for more amplifying information, when i say the motors are pulsing, they are basically doing 1 step with 1 click of the button. Holding the +/- button on the app or the testing panel results in one step only. Multiple clicks will result in multiple steps.

That usually is due to dir pin on the Mesa going to step pin on the Gecko.

Tried everything from 5000 up to 10000 and no change in behavior.

As tommylight said, just getting one step on jog press
or reversals suggests that step/dir are swapped

Yeah...in a very emabarrasing answer to the problem here. I wrote down, and was fully convinced that was how I wired it. It was how I intended to wire it, but I opened up my box and sure enough step/dri were reversed on all plugs. Must of fat fingered it when installing the drives. Fixed the wiring and it works great now, thank you for the help in diagnosing a silly little problem

Yeah...in a very emabarrasing answer to the problem here.

You might be less embarassed if you consider why so many people immediately thought of that possibility :-)
