Might try a LED + ~220 ohm resistor on the G250 step pin
(anode to step pin) This should show the step pulses as a dim glow

I have searched hi and low, but don't have anything close to a 220 ohm resistor. Not much of an electronics person these days. So, I will have to get some tomorrow.

anything from 100 Ohms to 2K Ohms should be OK

I am sorry, I have tried several times to reply but I have been getting Kunena errors.
My electronics theory is lacking, and dated!
I remember something about Ohm's law and think it applies here. I would have to Google it to understand how resistance in parallel or series works.
I ordered some 220-ohm resistors, and when they arrive tomorrow, I will try the test with a resistor and LED.
I appreciate the help and insight! I will update you as soon as I can do the test.

So tested my led configuration against the ground and 5v terminals TB1-1 and TB1-6 and it glows. But I get no indication of light when connected to TB1-1 and TB1-3 but I do get light connected to TB1-1 and TB1-2.
So, any ideas what I have wrong in the board config to cause that?
Thanks!

- Blue wire is Direction connected to TB1-5
- Light Brown wire is Step connected to TB1-3
- Yellow/Green wire is Ground connected to TB1-1
- Blue wire is Direction connected to 30p Terminal Block pin 27
- Light Brown wire is Step connected to 30p Terminal Block pin 28
- Yellow/Green wire is Ground connected to 30p Terminal Block pin 30

You should get a DIM glows from and LED connected from GND (TB1 pin 1)
to STEP0+, (Cathode on GND) but only when you jog X.
I would expect and LED connected to STEP0- (TB1 pin2) and GND
to glow brightly all the time as STEP0- will be high most of the time and
only go low when a step pulse occurs
You should be able to reverse the roles of STEP0+ and STEP0-
by inverting the step output. You can do this live with halshow
(Machine --> Show Hal Configuration) and setting:
hm2_7i96s.0.stepgen.00.step.invert_output
true
to STEP0+, (Cathode on GND) but only when you jog X.
