Glade exits without warning was created by racedirector
I just installed a new development machine using the latest Debian image. The machine has an E5300 DualCore processor with 3G ram along with an Nvidia GT430 1GB video card. After the install I upgraded LinuxCNC to 2.7
I have been trying to start my new GUI but everytime I use a HAL item Glade will just shutdown without warning losing everything I have done. I even deinstalled glade and then reinstalled however no difference. The about box show Glade 3.8.0.
I also had this experience on a virtual machine I tested, Glade would die for no reason and I thought the VM had to do with it.
Anyone else experienced this? It is a little frustrating to say the least and before I trash the install and do a custom one using Xubuntu 12.04 I was wondering if anyone knew what may be causing the crash.
Cheers

i believe , although not tried myself as yet , linuxncnc uses glade 2 (install glade-gtk2) not glade 3

Glade 3.8 was actually installed by default in the latest Debian image from LinuxCNC, I just deinstalled and reinstalled to see if it fixed my problem. The actual deb package was called glade-gtk2. JT also uses Glade 3 but a different version than I have

I have the same version on two virtual machines and one standalone machine and suffer from the same problem which seems to appear randomly.
I am trying to train myself to save every couple of edits so I don't lose too much.

I will also jump on the bandwagon. I have had the same problem. I started saving quite often to prevent the loss of too much work.

I'm running Glade version 3.8.0 on Debian Wheezy and it has never crashed. I had to install it as the package that came with Debian Wheezy is Glade version 3.12.1 which is for GTK3. I see back when I wrote the tutorials Ubuntu 10.04 had Glade version 3.6.7 for GTK2.

I think I have cured mine, I trashed the Debian install and installed Xubuntu 12.04, manually installed the kernel and LCNC 2.6.9 along with Glade, still version 3.8.0 and so far no crashes at all. I even had 3 copies of Glade open at the same time and none of them died without warning. No idea why the difference but I am happier right now.

I have this problem also and it seems to be related to how close to the camera'd native format in terms of its native 640x480 size is expand the axis gui to. If the tab window remain 40 os so pixels smaller that the camera, it sees to work, but get any closer that 550x390 pixels and it will exit and cannot be started without restarting LCNC. When t exits, it logs this line to the terminal LCNC was launched from.
/usr/bin/gladevcp:295: Warning: g_object_ref: assertion `object->ref_count > 0' failed
gtk.main()
I would like very much to be able to expand LCNC's gui to full screen without gladevcp's untimely death.

I use glade 3.8.6 and do not suffer that problems. The mentioned problems are bugs in releases prior to 3.8.5 I recommend to update from sources.
