Mousepad comes with the Linuxcnc Wheezy ISO. But you can download and install any text editor of your choosing via Synaptic (including Gedit).

Yep, it can be done, but adding Gedit will require installing a rather large pile of Gnome dependency crap (Synaptic should take care of it automatically.)

If you don't like Mousepad, it is possible to download the files on another PC and install them from a flash drive or something. But sometimes it is just simpler to unplug the PC and carry it to where you can plug it into the internet, install the software (and make any other updates) then drag it back to the machine.

It sounds like you are editing the tool table? In that case, why not use tooledit?

With the current release Wheezy what do you use for an editor. On the Ubuntu versions we used gedit which would allow you to reload the tool table to make sure that tool length was picked up.

Are you saying that it doesn't actually work, or that it is hard to operate with a touch screen?
There isn't a menu option to open it, but neither is there one to open mousepad or gedit.
You can edit existing entries in Touchy using the MDI tab and the G10 command (and I frequently do) But that will not allow you to add new tools.
