I failed on the very first sample of custom screen with gscreen. As soon as I try to add an action as described, the designer crashes. Designer is the recommended version 3.8.6
Now I realized by accident, that the linuxcnc-actions have a contextmenueoption "add as toplevel widget", which works fine.
May be its worth to update the docs
cheers Reinhard

Thank you - I will add that to the docs. Unfortunately that version of GLADE is pretty buggy and won't ever be fixed.

As I worked with mach4 before, I wanted to use Qt, but I don't get it working. Qt works, but not with linuxcnc widgets.
So I tried glade. Glade is rough and clumsy but after all, I got something similar to what I wanted.
So next step is use glade with linuxcnc extensions.
All tutorials failed. The one from gscreen was the first i got to work by accident.
So gscreen seems to be the only way viable ...
There's so much I have to learn and understand ...
My goal is usability - not fine grained polishing
//edit:
Don't know, whether it may be useful
I attach the error output from glade designer from the crash when trying to attach a halaction to an empty window

That version is probably the best. Save your work often.
GLADE doesn't support it anymore - We are using old libraries because linuxcnc is currently stuck with python 2.
Hopefully i can get QT fixexec on install versions soon.
